Next-Generation Battery Technology Promises to Double Electric Vehicle Range

A major battery manufacturer announced that its solid-state battery technology has achieved the production yields and cost targets necessary for mass deployment in electric vehicles, a breakthrough that could double driving range while halving charging times.

Technical Advances

Solid-state batteries replace the liquid electrolyte found in conventional lithium-ion cells with a solid material, enabling higher energy density and faster charging. The new cells also eliminate the fire risk associated with liquid electrolytes, potentially simplifying vehicle design and reducing insurance costs.

This is the battery technology the industry has been waiting for. It removes the two biggest barriers to EV adoption: range anxiety and charging time.

Three automakers have already signed supply agreements, with the first vehicles featuring the new battery technology expected to reach consumers within eighteen months.
